Cleveland, TN (5/12/12)
--- A main-stay in the racing area for over 30-years, Skip Arp
of Georgetown, TN, collected the nights $3,500 payday Saturday
night at Cleveland Speedway, earning his first Southern All
Star Dirt Racing Series victory in nearly four years. Arp won
the caution-free 40-lap 35th annual Tennessee Memorial over
reigning series champion and polesitter Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville,
to become the fourth different winner in 2012. William Thomas
of Phenix City, AL, was third followed by Ray Cook of Brasstown,
NC, and Jake Knowles of Tyrone, GA. Current points leader of
the series Randy Weaver of Crossville, finished sixth. Arps
victory driving his familiar # 31 "Curtis Equipment Sales,
Stanley Best Heating & Air and Tyler Bros. Farm Equipment"
sponsored GRT / Gaerte powered machine is the ninth of his career
on the circuit and first since Aug. 23, 2008. The victory comes
just nine days after Arp suffered a tough last-lap loss to neighbor
Riley Hickman at Cleveland's sister track down in Chattanooga.
Lamar Scoggins topped the unsanctioned Limited Late Model/Crate
feature, earning $1,200 in outrunning Jason Welshan. Cleveland
hosts the Southern All Stars three more times, including July
14th.
